Interactive Traffic Management Simulator

A complete TMP workbench built on Unreal Engine. Design the traffic management plan, run realistic AI traffic through it, walk it as a pedestrian or drive it in VR, then export the flythroughs — one tool, end to end.

// THE CHALLENGE

Traffic Management Plans are traditionally designed in 2D CAD, risk-assessed on paper, and communicated through static drawings. The first time anyone experiences the plan as a road user is when the cones are already on the ground — exactly when changes are most expensive and most dangerous to make.

Testing a TMP against real traffic behaviour — vehicle classes, flow rates, peak conditions, pedestrian movement — simply isn't possible in the tools TMPs are usually drawn in.

// WHAT WE BUILT

We built a purpose-designed simulator on Unreal Engine where a TMP can be designed, built and risk-assessed inside one tool. Real project context comes in two ways: direct import of common AEC formats (OBJ, FBX, NWD), or real-world context streamed live through built-in ArcGIS connectivity.

Custom road-building tools replicate the existing road environment, and a bespoke TMP toolset lays out the plan itself — signage, barriers, closures and diversions — exactly as it would be deployed on the day.

Design the TMP in-tool

A bespoke suite of tools to design, build or replicate a Traffic Management Plan directly inside the simulator — plus custom road-building tools to match existing road and traffic conditions.

Real project context

Import design and context models via common AEC formats (OBJ, FBX, NWD) — or stream real-world GIS context straight in through built-in ArcGIS connectivity.

Realistic traffic simulation

AI-driven vehicles with real-world physics and turning circles — across configurable vehicle classes, flow rates, times of day and weather conditions — to test the TMP's impact on road users.

Pedestrian safety simulation

Simulate walkways and pedestrian movement alongside traffic, confirming the design doesn't create unforeseen risk for road users or pedestrians.

VR & driving hardware

Experience the plan from a pedestrian's or driver's perspective in VR — compatible with all major headsets, and with Logitech steering wheel and pedal hardware for driver-seat review.

Presentation-ready output

TMP flythroughs, animations and renders exported directly from the tool for submissions, briefings and stakeholder reviews.
